The station located at Km 248.583 of the Júlio Prestes line was inaugurated on September 2, 1912, under the name Guaiquica.

On August 27, 1923, in honor of the work carried out by Dr. Afonso Constante Coelho for the former Funilense line

(incorporated by Sorocabana), it was renamed Engenheiro Coelho.

The first land subdivision, which gave rise to the settlement (Guaiquica), began around the station.
